My Creative Space...

Today I've been putting the finishing touches on this dainty necklace destined for my Etsy shop.

I made a style like this recently for a gallery...

...and liked how it turned out so much, that I thought I'd make one in silver and champagne colors, too.

Some Exciting News...

I have two neat things to share with you today!
First, I recently decided to start up two groups on flickr.
The groups grew out of my love of two very different aesthetics--
"Bohemian Embellishment" is all about rich colors, wonderful textures, a hint of the exotic...

"Fairy Tale Ornament" focuses on lighter, more delicate, and romantic things...

{click the image to take you to the groups}
I'm hoping that they'll be a gathering place for like-minded souls to post photos of things that inspire them, or things that they've created. I'm already getting lots of wonderful submissions to the groups--and I'd love to have you join me on there! I'm going to be doing a weekly post highlighting my favorite photos from the pools--I'm thinking a Bohemian post on Mondays, and a Fairy Tale one on Fridays. Should be fun!

{And I should take a moment to thank my friend Emma Lamb, whose wildly successful Granny Chic and All Colors In groups were my inspiration.}
And the other great news is that the lovely Kirsten of Fleur de Boheme has featured me on her blog!
Kirsten is a very talented textile artist, who makes everything from brooches to scarves to wrist warmers
to embellished slips to embroidered cards. Here are some of her beautiful designs...

I'll be back on Wednesday with my weekly Creative Space post. See you then!

My Creative Space...

This week, My Creative Space is one full of contrasts...
First, I have a half dozen brightly colored, newly finished BonBon earrings (the ones I showed as a work in progress in this post ) all in a row on my desk...

They're hanging out on my favorite vintage tin, which I use to stow ribbon snippets and sewing implements...

And then, at the other end of the spectrum (literally) I've been doing some black and white sketches for a very elegant custom order of Paisley Earrings...

The customer has requested black silk with tourmalines and gold thread, so I've been trying out some design ideas on paper (I always sketch in black and white, choosing my color palette later...)
Oh, yes-- and some of those yummy BonBon earrings that I mentioned earlier are now in my Etsy Shop:

New to my Etsy Shop...

 I wanted to share some new designs that I've just finished up this past week and listed in my Etsy shop...
First, I completed the decadent necklace whose pendant was
 featured in last week's My Creative Space post...
I am quite pleased with how this design turned out--it reminds me of something a character in a fairy tale might wear! No surprise, considering that while I was creating it I kept thinking of the tale Briar Rose (also known as Sleeping Beauty and La Belle au Bois Dormant in the French retelling.) The delicate, rose petal pinks of the large chalcedony stone and the freshwater pearls, along with the stylized flower shapes and the pointed edging of the pendant, reminiscent of thorns, all called to mind the fable of the sleeping princess hidden by rose vines, beautifully captured by this painting by Edward Burne-Jones...
A detail of the layered pendant, with tiny golden flowers, AA quartz crystal briolettes, freshwater pearls and vintage rhinestones...
I embellished the chalcedony focal with a dainty, double sided flower...
And carried the rose motif to the chain as well, dotting it with matching flower links along the length of it...
Even the clasp is a rose! This was a vintage gold-tone one that I've been saving for just the right project...
I made the necklace a dramatic opera length so that it can be worn long or looped up twice, with the flowered clasp a lovely focal  point at the neck as the pendant drapes gracefully below....
I also finished another pair of the increasingly popular "BonBon" style (can't seem to keep them in stock!)...
These are a bit more decadent than past variations...I've added tiny beaded rosettes at the top and three drops of freshwater pearls...
I'll be back tomorrow with a peek at what I'm working on this week!
Until then,
